A couple of weekends ago Lesley and I travelled to Arisaig, on the west coast. On the way there we stopped at a couple of places associated with Bonnie Prince Charlie – Glenfinnan and the site on the Sound of Arisaig where he embarked from mainland Scotland after the battle of Culloden.
We stayed in Arisaig and ate at the nearby Cnoc na Faire hotel which has excellent food (and award-winning pints of Tennents; controversially, almost as good as the Pils I was drinking in Berlin in February) and is definitely to be recommended.
The weather most of the time was pretty awful but we did manage visits to Castle Tioram in Moidart, Ardnamurchan Point and Camusdarach Beach in Morar (where some of Local hero was filmed).
One the way back home we went for a short walk in upper Glen Nevis (great views of Ben Nevis and the Mamore summits with a dusting of snow through the rain showers) and stopped off to view the ‘Parallel Roads’ in Glen Roy.
You can see all the photos from the trip on my website here.
