Apparently got this nickname for his science class use of alcohol in experiments. Came from Bridgeton. Married Miss Margaret McLean, primary school teacher in Hamilton 1957

Art Teacher....always treated us like adults. I remember her as always being beutifully groomed and up to date in her clothes and hairstyles. A role model for the girls and drooled over by the boys!  MArgaret Macmillan nee Bristow

Message from Michael Emonds - Jan 2013

About twelve years ago I told the story of how Mr Russell got his nickname,it was a referance to him using alcohol for experiments in the science class, I think this disappointed some people as they were probably hoping for some link to the demon drink but I can assure you I was in the class of 58 that gave him the name. He was a great character and was originally from Brig'ton Cross area and he could handle himself big time.

He ran the school choir of which I was a member in the mid 1950s. Part of that membership was that each summer we would all go for a few weeks holiday up the West coast of Scotland. On one of those holidays to Acharacle, he took a lot of colour cine film of our activities. I often wondered what became of him and the film, which will now have tremendous social and historic significance.
