My daughter was looking through our photos last night and I was able to find the picture in question. It's a really good quality and it has scanned quite well. I think my mum went to Hallside school, but I'm not sure. I expect someone will recognise the teachers.
My mum was born in 1914, and the kids in the picture look like young teenagers, so I'd imagine it was taken around 1926 or 1927 approx.
My mum Maud McAlpine is third from the left in the front row (looking at the picture). Her father is the person who's likeness is on the war memorial in Cambuslang. By the way, the monument to the war dead in Cambuslang is a likeness of my grandfather John McAlpine who was killed in 1914. My brother and cousins attended a memorial service some years ago.
Her mum was Jeanie McAlpine, born Riddock. When I was a kid, my gran and Aunt lived on Mansion Street. At one time, they had a fruit shop in the town. My mum also worked at a Post Office in the town. I'm sorry I don't have any more information for you. There is no-one left to ask except an Aunt Mary who lives in East Kilbride and unfortunately we don't have any contact with her. She will be 90 this year and is the last member of the family still alive.
